Blue Heelers have an incredible presence—equal parts strength, loyalty and quiet intelligence—and I wanted this piece to honour that spirit. With a relaxed posture, alert ears and an open, welcoming expression, this portrait invites a moment of connection that feels both familiar and timeless. Built through expressive layers of paint and confident, gestural brushwork, the rich blue and earthy beige tones of the coat are set against a bold red and black backdrop, creating a sense of energy, depth and balance. Rather than chasing realism, I'm always searching for the essence of my subject—the character that lives beneath the surface.
